Cure for the Disease of Wokeness

By Patrick follow Patrick   2021 May 31, 1:45pm 465 views   23 comments   watch   nsfw   quote   share

Like other mental illnesses, wokeness has causes which, if well understood, could be reversed.

I think the primary causes of wokeness are:

- the need to belong to something in our atomized globalized consumer existence
- bitterness at feeling like a failure, or feeling weak (gays and women often feel weak, which is one reason they are more liberal)
- fear of being fired or expelled
- (what are more of the root causes of the woke disease?)

Some some cures would be:

- celebrating the 4th of July with children; it has been shown that 4th of July celebrations make kids more patriotic
- belonging to a strong family; it probably helps to learn your genealogy and meet distant relatives with the name surname
- traditional religion
- pride in one's and country, the feeling of belonging to something strong
- physical strength; men should lift weights, grow a beard if possible, and own a gun
- red pill education; men change when they learn how women really are
- starting and running one's own business, achieving financial independence and independence from academia
- dank memes which spread truth on their own every time they are copied
- (what are more cures aimed at these root causes of the woke disease?)

I'm going to have to re-read "The True Believer" by Hoffer.

Teaching people hard work and responsibility cures wokeness, not superficial corporate bullshit wokeness, but real wokeness.

Woke people once they learn to be rich and make money, stop whining and start working. I’ve seen that a lot with youth.

That's true. When people work hard and have some success, they grow up and get past woke shit.

I'd bet that >90% of the woke do not earn their money. They are college students, women living off their husbands or off the state, the unemployed, etc.

And a sword. Real men should own a sword, know how to sharpen it, and be ready to use it.

Hadn't considered that, but maybe a good idea.

It's part of the Sikh tradition, and for good reason.

It’s a beauty of old traditions, there’s always a good reason for them.

What if you can just people to consider whether they are making things worse (which they are)?

"What if you’d dedicated most of your life to trying to save the planet, but then you realised that you may have actually—potentially—made things worse?"

Primary cure would be to force the wokersters to endure the long-term outcome of their woke desires.

• Wokersters in college complaining about "lack of diversity" should be expelled to make room for the "diverse" people.
• Wokesters in corporate settings should step down to make room for the "diverse" people.
• Wokesters wishing for socialist government should be sent off to gulags — the ultimate outcome of socialism.
• Wokesters demanding disarmament of the populace should try defending themselves, loved ones, or property against 3 or 4 young men the size and strength of football players with their bare hands. See how that goes for a while.
• Maybe we should have a woke city cancel the entire police force just to see how that works out. As an experiment. I'd be totally up for that so long as it isn't any city near me!

@SunnyvaleCA I love all those ideas.

First thing, we should promote expulsion of all white liberals from all colleges.

Instead of finding more mature ways to channel their youthful idealism, many newly employed graduates became intoxicated with just how easily they could intimidate their superiors with supposed evidence of institutional racism. Not that every young hire prioritized pushing a social justice agenda on his or her organization, but enough did to turn hundreds of HR departments into speech police, to cow major corporations into taking progressive political stands, and most detestably of all to sanction the shaming and ideological indoctrination of innocent school children. ...

Add to this psychological mix the growing incidence of fatherlessness among all demographic groups—a social condition that tends to foster feelings of both inadequacy and resentment—and the appeal of a utopian ideology which at once promises more entitlements while simultaneously targeting those who are better off becomes a lot easier to understand. The white contingent may claim to be motivated only by an altruistic desire for social justice, but their willingness to confess ancestral racism conveniently guarantees their own share of a more redistributionist state. According to a recent Pew study, two-thirds of millennials and 70 percent of Gen-Zers would happily surrender more of their personal freedom for the assurance of a comfortable future. ...

In his 1976 Nobel address, novelist Saul Bellow anticipated the psychological dilemma of today’s woke generations, torn between the seeming security of a materialistic ideology and yet retaining some sense of a deeper wisdom. They would be reluctant to talk about this split, Bellow said, “because there is nothing we can prove, because our language is inadequate and because few people are willing to risk talking about it. They would have to say, ‘There is a spirit’ and that is taboo.” So, they would all keep quiet about it, especially amongst each other, but the nagging doubt would never go away.

That so many Millennials and Gen-Zers have a historically low tolerance for due process, free speech, and other protections for dissenting opinion would hardly surprise Bellow, for he would see in their aggressive narrow-mindedness not true belief, but an almost fanatical desire to blot out the psychic split. With little educational preparation for the inevitable conflict between academic ideology and the sense of a deeper reality, Critical Race Theory is clung to with a ferocity that any genuine conviction would never require.

The good news for the larger society is that wokeism’s march through its institutions may have finally met its match at the K-12th grade schoolhouse door. It has been one thing for American parents to read about some company forcing its staff to undergo racial sensitivity training or a city attorney refusing to prosecute minority criminals, but quite another to have their own children judged in class by skin color, deprived of “white” courses in math and science, and subjected to other measures designed, ultimately, to snuff out their true selves.

Huh, someone managed to delete https://patrick.net/post/1339999 in between my backups. I discovered this when I got an email someone liked this comment and I could not find the original post, so here's my comment again:

WookieMan says

Gays are a protected class above and beyond others.

This is true. Gayness is an endemic disease in the power centers of the US: Ivy League, big coastal cities, top government positions, and major corporations. And the people with this disease demand that we lie and say they all had the disease from birth, and make special laws overriding human biology and hygiene. Of course they almost all die without children, but they continuously recruit and convert via pedophilia and propaganda.

I suspect that one reason the Romans were able to take over the Mediterranean from the Greeks is that the Greeks incapacitated themselves with epidemic levels of anal warts, hepatitis, and other diseases, rendering them incapable of fighting. It would be interesting to look for ancient documentation of this, beyond the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. Maybe it's a factor in the fall of empires. Maybe it brought down the Ottoman Empire as well.

AIDS is just nature telling gays once again "No, that is not a good idea in the least." But they don't learn the lesson.

(Now I've fixed my backups so that deleted posts should always be recoverable.)

Mothers should be called mothers. It's a term of honor and respect.

"Birthing people" is a term of dishonor and disrespect.

https://spectatorworld.com/topic/america-still-work-woke-capitalism/

For nearly two years, Americans have engaged in a great woke experiment of cannibalizing themselves. American civilization has invested massive labor, capital and time in an effort constantly to flagellate itself for not being perfect.

Yet neither America’s resilience nor its resources are infinite. We are now beginning to see the consequences of what happens when premodern tribalism absorbs Americans.

There are concrete consequences when ideology governs policy or when we take for granted the basics of life to pursue its trappings.

Who cares whether the blow-dried media is woke if it cannot report the truth and keep politicians honest?

Once journalists became progressive poodles rather than the watchdogs of government, the Biden administration had no fear of audit. It took for granted that its disasters from the southern border to the chaos in Afghanistan would be excused by toady reporters.

Government-engineered ‘equity’ has replaced the goal of equal opportunity. But such utopianism birthed popular anger when personal initiative, excellence and performance do not count as much as virtue-signaling groupthink.

The United States just suffered a terrible and shameful defeat in Afghanistan. The catastrophe reminds us that the Biden Administration weaponized its politicized military and bureaucracy mostly to fixate on diversity, equity and inclusion, and to root out supposed internal American enemies.

So, our top brass and functionaries talked of redirecting the military to every possible woke agenda — except ensuring military superiority and the safety of the United States.

The result is the horrific mess of a premodern Taliban army routing the most sophisticated military in the history of civilization. We shudder when America begs premodern tribes please not to murder our citizens whom we abandoned in full retreat.

Our airline CEOs vie to virtue signal their wokeness by damning voter ID laws — though such identification is required to board their own airplanes. As corporations preen to the media, their jet airliners lately don’t have enough fuel to reach their destinations. The new American airline normal is woke delays, woke cancellations and woke anarchy in the skies.

Universities now subject their admissions, their hiring and their very research to race and gender directives. There is less concern for the collective student debt of $1.7 trillion. College students may graduate woke, but they do so with far less impressive reading and writing skills than their less politically correct predecessors a half-century ago.

Are college administrators really so virtuous when they boast of improving diversity, equity and inclusion? Why then do they ignore indebted and poorly educated graduates — veritable serfs who cannot afford homes, put off raising families, and prolong their adolescence rather than becoming autonomous citizens?

We know from centuries past what policies ensure public safety and which guarantee crime. All laws must be enforced equally. Yet now suicidal critical race and legal theories govern which laws are enforced and which are ignored.

If a state attorney prosecutes crimes — or chooses not to prosecute them — on the basis of ideology and race rather than on questions of impartial law, then who would obey, much less honor any of them?

The police must not just be monitored, but respected and supported. Today they are defamed and defunded. If those who commit crimes do not expect to be arrested, tried, convicted and punished, then crime pays. And so we get more of it.

Cries to empty the jails and prisons and pull back on police might sound neat on Twitter. But lots of innocent Americans will suffer the deadly consequences of someone else’s virtue signaling.

Before a country can conduct cancer research, explore outer space or defeat its enemies thousands of miles away, its citizens must have access to affordable fuel, food and shelter.

But ideologues now restrict irrigation water, gasoline supplies, power generation and timber production. They may seem woke and enlightened to each other. But otherwise, they are indifferent to the exorbitant cost of living, the growing shortages of necessities and the hundreds of thousands of homeless living amid filth, excrement and disease on the nation’s urban sidewalks and streets.

Social media fights, the cancel culture wars between celebrities and elites, the virtue signaling of academics, actors and activists — all of it means nothing if Americans do not have safe roads, viable travel, affordable gas, food and housing, and safety in their homes.

Increasingly, they do not have these things. Woke leaders are losing the ability to do the hard and essential work of civilization, largely because they are obsessed with the dispensable.

We live in a world of cell phones, Skype and Zoom. But high tech has become a mere veneer pasted over medieval urban streets, Depression-era highways and Third-World airways. It is more dangerous to walk the nighttime streets of Chicago than it is those of war-torn Kabul or Baghdad.

Until our officials can ensure a humane and sustainable standard of living, we have no business lecturing others abroad, much less conducting endless witch hunts of our own at home.

I can tell you exactly what the actual problem is.

People believe they are following an ideology and are being morally correct in the extreme. All you need to do to "cure" them is show the flaw in their reasoning, and demonstrate they are not being moral and in fact are being immoral.

So, they have this complex foundation of reasoning. You have to start from the base, and find their mistake along the way. This is not trivial or easy to do but it's possible. For example, if your basis of morality is "do no harm" you can use that reasoning to build up to humanity needs to be destroyed, because it's so harmful to every other creature on the planet. We basically have a holocaust against many animals. However, this ignores the brutality of nature. You know how a typical wild animal dies? It first starts to starve, and then it's eaten alive.

And there is the fucking problem. We are so divorced from the red and raw reality of life that we don’t understand these basic facts. Vegans attempt to make their cats vegan. People think that meat comes from the grocery store, and if they ever consider the process by which it arrives there, it’s a vague sort of thing where animals are politely euthanized and processed in a bloodless sanitary manner. They don’t understand how ecosystems work, and “Nature, red in tooth and claw” is a foreign concept to them. In fact, Rudyard Kipling’s writings about the intersection of man and nature would be terribly offensive to them, as they fly in the face of woke ideology. Meanwhile, the http://www.kiplingsociety.co.uk/poems_copybook.htm don’t care what you think. They’ll continue working as they always have, even as mankind, blinded by his own illusions, walks over the cliff.

I disagree.

It's not possible through reason.

As a rule, people stake out a position based on their feelings about the potential end result.

Then they select facts that support their feelings, ignoring facts which are inconvenient. If new "facts" are needed, they will be hallucinated into existence.

The only way is to show people you are on their side as a human being, even if not on the particular issue.

Then they may select facts that support having you as a friend, if they want you as a friend.

AS I PASS through my incarnations in every age and race,
I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.
Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.

We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,
So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.

We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place,
But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.

With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch,
They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch;
They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings;
So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.

When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "Stick to the Devil you know."

On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
(Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "The Wages of Sin is Death."

In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: "If you don't work you die."

Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.

As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool's bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;

And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

It's different this time! Permanent Plateaus! We make our own reality! Yes, We Can! The Free Market is the Answer! Social Justice!
