Donald Trump and the GOP base: A closed universe of small-minded self-deception

Like Trump, the voters have had no interest in such introspection and no desire to to change anything. Indeed, they wanted to double down on xenophobia, racism and sexism and crudely reject anyone who wasn’t exactly like them. And like their new leader, they romanticize violence and keep scores against their enemies. Trump, with his promise to take America back to its overwhelmingly white, male-dominated past, was just what the doctor ordered.

Trump goes on and on in the interview about how winners have to learn how to “acclimate” to new circumstances and sells himself as someone who is particularly good at that. But his performance as a presidential candidate illustrates his self-deception. He has been constitutionally unable to summon the discipline required to stay on message, create a working organization and resist the impulses that drive him to create havoc with his strategy. His campaign has been a train wreck mostly because he has insisted on running it by the seat of his pants, trusting that his instincts are so superior that he didn’t need to learn anything from anyone.

The entirety of this statement is opinion and also entirely false. What a crappy article to post. Aren't you supposedly intelligent?

Like ... duh.

Crapton Poundass's entire oeuvre here can be summarized as "Don't bother me with facts, it's all about what The Orange Buddha will achieve on a meta level. Just trust in Him."

The Deplorable DFJ says

Yes, I've heard this argument before. It's understood that the typical essay or an editorial or column is opinion, hopefully supported by facts. Did you read it ? Perhaps the excerpt I selected wasn't the best. How about this ?

His campaign has been a train wreck mostly because he has insisted on running it by the seat of his pants, trusting that his instincts are so superior that he didn’t need to learn anything from anyone.

This trait is also reflected in the GOP’s base of voters, who refuse to accept that the world is changing and they have to change with it. Instead, they cling obstinately to a privileged status that no longer exists and close their minds to the reality that it really isn’t necessary in the first place. As Salon’s Matthew Rozsa pointed out this week, they yearn for a return to a time when America was dominated culturally and economically by white people and led exclusively by men.

In a survey published by the Public Religion Research Institute, 72 percent of likely voters supporting Republican nominee Donald Trump say America has changed for the worst since the 1950s. By contrast, 70 percent of likely voters supporting his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton say that America has changed for the better since that decade.

Matthew Rozsa is completely full of shit. Even at Trumps rally today in Colorado, he said that there will be doors in the wall(metaphorically speaking...christ I don't even know why its necessary to spell this out) to allow in legal immigrants to great cheers. Not once has Trump even slightly suggested that we end immigration, and neither have his supporters. I swear I have no idea how you come to such idiotic conclusions.

What you would get out of a Trump administration is

1) a huuuge wall (I guarantee there's billion$ in this for Trump, he even mentioned it naming himself "the greatest builder")
2) more tax cuts for the rich
3) more police state
4) more war bucks
5) more privatization
6) more deregulation
7) greater austerity against workers
8) greater austerity against poor

that is the main event, the rest of the show is non-monetary

9) never-ending talk about healthcare austerity ignoring the big gouge
10) never-ending talk about trade agreement unfairness
11) more gimmes to racists and extremist baptists

and there are so many nullifications of the constitution planned by organizations such as ALEC at the state level. I mean look they've already got this huge prison industry going with lucrative loobying opportunities for all the representatives. They already fixed it so 95% of the accused never get to have a trial because they get bullied into giving up their rights and copping a plea.

That is slavery come back. Also the next level is lucrative MANDATORY probation services where you serve time at home and they gouge your family every which way MANDATORY services or you go to prison.

Then there are all these laws to get you disqualified or cut off for unemployment or any other benefit that might still exist. Laws making it easier for employers to fuck you around too.

The state-level shit is never-ending. MAKE IT YOUR BUSINESS TO READ THOSE MEASURES CAREFULLY AND RAISE AWARENESS.

States rights is back. GOP is putting the big money there during this election runup which is a circus of circuses and they all have us slack-jawed and stink-eyed over Trump. SHIT is going on in the background. Major shit BIG shit, it always does when they have a big circus for us all to obsess about.
