I love this President!

If !!!Jeb!!! was elected, he'd be saying how Trade Deficits are an "Act of Love" or "Compassion" or some bullshit.

If Hillary was elected, we'd probably be glowing at night from a nuclear winter.

What a fucking idiot, Trump thinks China is paying the tariffs, totally incompetent and a nincompoop to boot. FYI genius, tariffs are paid by the buyer.

Not in this case. First, 25% tariffs not really 25% tariffs by the time it is collected here in the US. It is really 2.5%. Congress insisted on this after the Globalist Fucks lobby raised holy hell. And that is paid up front by the Chinese exporter, many who have been eating the cost out of his pocket instead of passing it along, so far.

Not in this case 2, where tariffs hurt is in loss of market for the importer -- particularly if this means other firms suddenly now competitive start filling that market void. This is where it hurts the Chinese far, far more than the US consumer, as Chinese goods are pretty replaceable via those other aforementioned sources whereas goods like oil and food are not. And the Chinese depend way more on exports of goods as an overall percentage of GDP than the US does. For example, what we can't insource production equivalents ourselves, we can import from Vietnam or Mexico, etc. instead.

So for example, lets say that a chinese exporter sells a product to a USA buyer for $1....but now with a 25% tariff, the cost to the buyer will be $1.25....So now the buyer decides he can't make a decent profit with the cost being $1.25 so he won't buy it. The chinese exporter asks him why he canceled his order and the USA buyer tells him...Now the chinese exporter has the option to lower his price... maybe from $1 to 0.85 cents and with the 25% tariff, the new price will be a $1.06....they agree and the buyer now pays $1.06 and can still make a profit and the chinese exporter can still keep his business running...I think that is how business works but I could be mistaken.

Yeah, like the open corruption of Joe Biden & Family?

A private equity firm managed by the son of former Vice President Joe Biden struck a deal with China's state-owned bank in 2013 at the same time that Biden was in the country to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Hunter Biden, who arrived in China aboard Air Force Two alongside the vice president and the rest of the U.S. delegation, was at the time in control of Rosemont Seneca Partners LLC., a private equity firm that would go on to strike a deal with the state-owned Bank of China to create a $1 billion joint investment fund..

Yes they hold out hope for the Democrat idiots to resume their incompetence shortly. But it’a interesting that Chuck Schumer started backing Trump on this. Maybe he’s tired of being the reason China won’t make a deal.

Oh you mean like this: Feb. 14, 2017: After promising as a candidate to recognize Taiwanese independence, Trump reverses course, pledging to Chinese President Xi Jinping that the U.S. will uphold the “One China” policy. Five days later, the Chinese government finally grants Trump a long-sought trademark protection." Fucking Hillary

Guys, this is a bipartisan policy, not just Trump's. You guys are giving too much credit to Trump. It is amazing China got away with this much for as long as they did, thanks to Obama. Not any more. It won't make any difference if the Democrats would win the next election. I think it is pretty much the general consensus in US to fight China on this. Just don't choose a president who is too liberal.

China will soon have the largest market on earth. US companies like Apple will beg to be able to sell there, regardless of cost to them. If they don't, large Chinese competitors will appear, with a larger base, and US companies won't hold to market positions.
Losing position, regardless of tariffs.
China will just steamroll the world now, just based on size.

China can't survive without US exports. Something like a quarter of their economy is exports. The US was never such, 5% for most of our history and most of that raw materials like copper and wheat, not finished goods like Radios and Cars. China is the opposite.

This is the most important thing we can be doing for our long term economic health. Wall Street does not want us to go on a diet to reduce our Chinese Import Obesity Blood Pressure, but to keep stuffing our faces and swiping the credit card on Junk Food Imports

THANK you! So many folks on here and in general believe myths otherwise. They thus don't realize that the screams of those impacted by the trade war (soybean farmers, for example) are those of just a narrow special interest group as a percentage of GDP.

Exports are going to increase when we become a net oil exporter within a few years. Already our net imports have dropped like a rock because that same expansion in oil production that both Biden and Obama SAID was impossible has reduced our need to import oil, except to mix with your light sweet fracked oil in our refineries.

Actually, that won't be enough. Because this is REALLY about stopping their rise to geopolitical rival status. Not mere containment, but outright stopping them.

Thucydides' Trap has been sprung...even for many Democrats. Hell, Bernie is even more with the program than that Beijing Puppet Biden is.

Oh this goes all the way back to Nixon. Elder Bush served as US Ambassador to China shortly afterward (he would ride a bicycle to the Embassy and back, even). It was a Bretton Woods bribe to keep China permanently split from the Soviets. It worked brilliantly.

Only prob is that the Cold War has been over since 1992. So what is amazing is that it took America this long to start re-aligning things back more to its interest.

Trump starting an "OMG! Horrible Trade War! Let's keep taking it in the ass instead! Only way forward!" was the major Dem talking point against Trump in 2016.

Williams-Sonoma CEO says the company saw tariff hikes coming, hired more US workers

Williams-Sonoma shifted some furniture production to Vietnam, Indonesia and the United States after President Donald Trump slapped 10% duties on $200 billion worth of Chinese goods last year.

n December, Williams-Sonoma announced that it would open a facility in Tupelo, Mississippi, in January and add hundreds of jobs to manufacture upholstered furniture. Alber said it’s beneficial to bring jobs back to the United States because “the cost from the freight coming from Asia offsets the costs of the labor,” as the company learned after opening its first Sutter Street Manufacturing unit in North Carolina.

“We looked at opening another unit in Tupelo and then bolstering up our other two West Coast and East Coast manufacturing units,” Alber said. “And so we’re hiring … 500 people, and we’ve got 140 right now in Tupelo. We need to hire more, and we need to hire more on the coasts, as well.”
